As the traditional summer dearth of good TV nears its end, Sky1 has a great new US family sitcom up its sleeve. ROBIN WIGGS explains why it's worth tuning in for... Aren't there already lots of family comedies? Yes, but there are never enough good ones that families can actually sit down and enjoy together. The Middle follows Thomas wylde Bags Replica in the grand tradition of Roseanne and Malcolm In The Middle, telling the story of a family who muddle through any way they can - they might not be perfect, but they're together. It's not as real as Roseanne or as cool as Malcolm, but it's shaping up to be at least as funny as both.
Abercrombie & fitchWhat makes it work? It has a great cast, doesn't go for the obvious jokes, and has no laughter track to slow it down.
Patricia Heaton (second left, formerly of Everybody Loves Raymond) plays the frantic mum who feeds her son frozen pancakes for breakfast ('Lick it, it'll last longer'), while the disastrously honest dad is played by Neil Flynn (centre, the janitor from Scrubs).
Who else is in it? Comedy veteran Brian Doyle-Murray (Bakersfield PD) is great as Mum's callous car dealer boss. Of the children, the 'clinically quirky' Brick (Atticus Sha er) is a dead ringer for Dewey from Malcolm In The Middle pocket watches for men - but the standout child star is Eden Sher (centre right) as the awesomely awkward Sue. Just wait for her plan to attract the new boy.
