According to Prof BD Tripathi, a member of the National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA) and coordinator of the Centre for wholesale lingerie Environmental Science and Technology, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), the discharge of coloured effluents into the Ganga contained hazardous heavy metals. The untreated effluents of dyeing and printing units constituted hazardous metals like chromium, lead and zinc that adversely affected human health.
